In the William Brothers History of Franklin and Pickaway Counties, Ohio, on page 311, we find the following information concerning, Amelia Lewis Cole's family: "Zadak Lewis (Amelia Cole's father) came from Worcester County, Maryland, to Ohio in the spring of 1806. He lived some seven years near Clarksburg, in Ross County, and then removed to Perry Township, locating upon the farm now owned by Milton Lewis. There he died, February 28, 1835. Mrs. Lewis (Margaret) died August 3, 1846. The children were Soloman, who married Nancy Grey; Peter, who married Hattie Evans, and Milley, who married John Cole," and etc.
The above information relative to Zadak Lewis coming from Maryland was further substantiated after a review of Maryland's 1800 U.S. Census, Worcester County. Zadak Lewis was enumerated as head of the household, along with other members of his family as follows: 3 males under 10; 1 male 26 but under 45; 1 female under 10; 1 female 26 but under 45 and 1 female 45 up (page 524 or 232).
We feel there is a need to point out that Zadak Lewis' name, whether spelled Zodak or Ziddock, as spelled on his tombstone, has been proven to refer to one and the, same person. "Ziddock" and Margaret Lewis are both buried in Campbell, Grant Farm Cemetery, Perry Township, Pickaway County, Ohio.
- From research paper written by Noman Cole, Jacksonville, Florida in 1981.

Lived for a while in Berwick, Pa. from where he moved to to the Genesee country in New York. Finding the country subject to fevers he returned to Berwick and from there to Sullivan Co., Pa. (From Streby's History of Cherry Township, 1903, page 37.) 1810 census shows him living in The Town of Hector, Seneca Co., New York. Census shows 3 males under age 10, 1 male age 11 to 15, 1 male 21 to 45 and 1 female under age 10, 2 female 11 to 15 and 1 female 21 to 45 (31010-12010). This was the Finger Lake region then called the "Genesee Country. The town of Hector was part of the Military Tract (land given by New York state to their Revolutionary War veterans) and many of the men promptly sold their lands cheaply. Hector is now part of Schuyler Co., N.Y. In 1819 he settled on Ringer Hill and and in 1823 he bought land for $3.00 an acre. He was among the earliest settlers in Cherry Township, Sullivan Co.. **He took up land near the southwestern corner of the present boundary of the township along the old turnpike. By him and his sons the first clearings were made on the ridge between the two branches of the Loyalsock creek. ** (from Egle's Notes and Queries of Pa. 1700s-1800s, Fourth Series Volume II.)
Sponsors at baptism were Jurg & Anna Huntzinger.
