"Job, M.D., must have served his time at the clother's trade, for,
May 9, 1785,
he purchased for L24, of Samuel Bullen, half of a fulling-mill, with
water-privilege, where the lower cotton-mill now stands, in Medway
village, and
in the conveyance is styled clothier. He inherited, (?) and about
the same
time owned the Bent saw-mill at the same place. He opened a store
on the N.
side of the main street, opposite the road to Franklin, and is
presumed to have
sold out to Capt. Felt, about 1800, when he moved to Hampton, now in
Penobscot
County, Me. What attention he had previously given to the study of
medicine is
unknown, but he had not improbably been a member of the medical
school of his
near neighbor in Franklin, the eminent Dr. Leprelette. After his
removal to
Maine he practised medicine, and attained eminence in the
profession. In 1787
he married Dorcas Reed at Medway, who d. Oct. 5, 1814, on the third
day of her
widowhood, he having died October 2, aged only 52."
