He is the first documented ancestor of the Mabie family making his debut in the Dutch Reformed Church records at New Amsterdam (New York City) on 17 Feb 1647, a sponsor at the baptism of Hendrick Ryck, and was continuously at other baptisms there until 1662.Tradition says, he rarely used the surname Mabie, adopting instead the old Dutch custom of Batavian alias using the place of family origin, supposedly Naerden, Holland.
Pieter Casparszen was appointed an excise commissioner under an act passed by the burgomasters of New Amsterdam on May 5, 1654. He was on a tax list of 1655, and on July 12, 1655, Pieter Casparszen was a witness to a deed of purchase of land on the Delaware River. His residence was on the west side of Broad Street at the corner of Marketfield Street.
He married about 1650/51 at New Amsterdam, Aechte Jans Van Norden.
